The SMO (Supra Malleolar Orthosis) is a lower-limb orthotic device designed to provide support and stabilization around the foot and ankle while sitting just above the ankle bones (malleoli). Compared with a taller AFO, an SMO generally provides targeted control around the ankle and hindfoot while allowing greater freedom of movement at the lower leg.
