D-Dimer is a fibrin degradation product that rises in the bloodstream during thrombotic events, making this test a valuable tool for screening and ruling out conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).
